She loved getting into the back of cars, as we soon found out. When we had won her confidence we used to take her to the local racecourse for long runs. On her first visit, we went as far as possible with her, away from the buildings where the groundsmen were busy unloading their low-loader, and let her off. Like a racing snake, she raced faster than any racehorse to the low-loader and launched herself in the back. We got there some minutes later to find the workmen oblivious and Jess firmly installed.
